Safety Programs

OVCEF is dedicated to help the merit shop contractors in southwest Ohio improve the safety and health of their employees by providing education and guidance in hazard identification and accident prevention.  Due to this effort, OVCEF secured the contract with the Dept. of Labor to participate as an OSHA Training Institute Education Center.  Mid-America OSHA Education Center is one of only 4 such centers in the Midwestern United States.  Official OSHA courses are taught at the center where employees come from all over the country to receive safety education.  Students attend courses such as the OSHA 510, 500 and the OSHA Outreach Courses.   The Mid-America course catalog can be found on the website www.midamericaosha.org.

ABC’s Safety Training & Evaluation Process (STEP) recognizes the efforts of ABC members that strive to achieve effective safety practices at their firms and to provide contractors with a tool to objectively evaluate their safety programs, policies, procedures and training.  All members are encouraged to conduct this self evaluation.   Reaching Platinum (the top level of the STEP program) in 2008 are the following Ohio Valley Chapter members:

OSHA has long recognized the value of cooperative efforts by employers, employees, and government agencies to reduce hazards and strengthen worker protection. The Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP), which recognize employers and employees who have established effective safety and health management systems, have been particularly successful.   VPPAC, the Voluntary Protection Program Association for Construction, was created to implement the VPP Mobile Workforce Demonstration Program and recognizes and promotes those companies throughout the construction industry who achieve excellence in safety and health by continuously exceeding nationally recognized standards.  Membership in VPPAC offers companies assistance with their safety program from safety professionals that helped to create OSHA’s national program for construction.
